“My humanity is closely tied to the extent to which I can perceive myself in my enemy.” ~Christena Cleveland
When we cannot see ourselves in our enemies, we begin to deny their humanity. And in denying their humanity, we also lose our own.
Who is your enemy? That person who disagrees with all you stand for and all you believe? That person who advocates political, social, or religious positions you disagree with? That person who gets on your every last nerve or who has inflicted real damage on your life or those you love?
Can you perceive yourself even in that person? It’s worth trying to do so for your own sake and for your own humanity!
