“It is through creating, not possessing, that life is revealed.” ~Vida D. Scudder
We (as a society) prioritize shopping and owning things over spending time creating. I think maybe we have those priorities backwards!

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche
I tend toward valuing order and organization and structure in my life, but I’ve never managed to completely squeeze out the chaos that comes with life’s changes. And yet, my highly prized order can easily turn into stagnation instead.
Over time, I’ve learned to embrace the chaos inside me and around me (even when it’s not always comfortable) for creativity and growth inevitably form out of that chaos. Despite its discomfort it brings the raw materials that give birth to the dancing stars that brighten my world.
How well do you make space for a necessary amount of chaos in your life to fuel your ongoing creative growth?
“Whenever you are creating beauty around you, you are restoring your own soul.” ~Alice Walker
Beauty comes in many forms—from music to visual art to the written word to a well-cooked meal to a kind word or deed.
What kind of beauty will you create today? In offering that beauty to the world, you will find that you are also restoring your own soul.
“Loss makes artists of us all as we weave new patterns in the fabric of our lives.” ~G.W. Crosby
I love the idea of loss making us artists. Loss is hard and painful, but imagining the recreation of a new live after loss as the work of an artist weaving a new pattern brings some comfort and inspiration to the process. We’d all rather be weaving the same of patterns we knew and loved, but if those old patterns are no longer possible, we might as well embrace our inner artists and get creative with the new patterns we weave!
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” ~Maya Angelou
I used to firmly believe that I was not a creative person. Because of that, I didn’t use it, so I did indeed have access to little of it.
Then I started playing with the little I had, and it grew. So I played some more, and it grew even more yet. I’ve yet to come anywhere close to running out!
Now my world revolves around my creativity, and while I may still not be the creative or artistic person that ever lived, I’ve discovered that I am a whole lot more creative than I thought I was … and my world is so much richer for expressing it.
How much are you using your creativity?
