The secret history of our enemies

The secret history of our enemies

“If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.” ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It’s so easy to judge each other from what we see on the outside. We forget that their difficult words and actions are likely driven by the pain and trauma of their history. If we could see the pain hidden beneath the surface of every person we encountered, it would re-frame our judgment of them entirely.

What are you doing with your mind?

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.” ~John Milton

The mind is a powerful thing, and too often allow its running programs to take over and create our reality unchecked. How much better it is to learn to work with our minds to create a reality that works well for us.

What are you doing with your mind?

The best assumption

“All I know is that my life is better when I assume people are doing their best.” ~Brené Brown

It’s so easy to assume the worst of others, and the self-righteous anger in that moment can be an addicting high. But life is so much better when we assume that others are doing their best and move toward compassion instead when we see that they don’t have the resources to do better.

The real difficulty

“The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself.” ~Maya Angelou

Whether the challenge is in healing, in pursuing your dreams, or in transforming your life, the real difficulty we face over and over again is changing how we think about ourselves. We must recognize our inherent worth and beauty to be able to move forward into the life we long for.

Where do you need to change how you think of yourself?
