The freedom you long for

mushrooms

“The freedom you long for will never be found in the eradication of the unwanted, only in its embrace.” ~David G. Brenner

These mushrooms pop up every year between the flagstones in my back yard (along with the weeds).

As long as I am resisting their presence and trying to eradicate any sign of them, I am held hostage in my suffering by their appearance each year.

But when I let go of my need for a perfect yard and embrace even these “blemishes” in my landscape, I discover freedom in my curiosity and fascination with their brief show each year.

It’s true of all the other things I resist in myself and in my life as well.

Freedom only comes in the embrace of the imperfections and unwanted appearances.

What might you stop trying to eradicate and embrace instead today for greater freedom in your life?
